I'm connecting the USB cord from the H5 directly to the Mac. Neither did removing the other USB device from the Mac (a HD).

I thought perhaps I needed to update the firmware to 2.0 - I did this by popping the SD card and putting it directly in the iMac slot (my audio files were visible then). If I select 'Audio I/O' on the H5, the H5 appears in AudioMIDI setup on the Mac - so it does find the H5.
